A was referred in for support as she was struggling to come to terms with dad’s alcohol use. She ‘constantly worries about dad’. Mam & Dad are separated and Dad is currently only allowed supervised access to A and her siblings. A has stated that ‘her dream would be for Dad to stop drinking and for her to see him more’.
The client self-referred in regards to her sister’s alcohol use. She reported that she felt angry with her sister and frustrated and helpless. The client was trying to control her sister’s drinking and get her to stop. The client was also struggling to be the peacemaker within the family because the problematic behaviour of her sister was affecting the whole family dynamic.
I worked with Hayley after my son was referred to Gwent N-gage for support around his substance use. Hayley attended to assess him and offered us support as a family with GDAFS. At the time my son was self-medicating with Cannabis for his anxiety and low mood and as a family we were very distressed.
